DWTS’ Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Call Off Engagement
Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have called of their engagement. The Dancing With The Stars couple announced their split today. Karina’s rep also confirms the split to USMagazine.
Maksim, 29, posted on his Twitter Monday: “What was meant to be a ‘life long book’, turned into a ‘chapter’…….and now that ‘chapter’ is finished…… Se la vie…” The twitter status has been deleted as of Tuesday.
The professional dancing duo got engaged on New Year’s Eve 2008 — just six months after Karina, 31, split from Mario Lopez. They had planned on getting married in June 2010, but prolonged their engagement in July because of their busy Broadway schedules.
They will both be returning to DWTS when the new season returns to ABC Sept. 21. Maksim is paired with Entourage star Debi Mazar, and Karina with Aaron Carter.
This split seems rather sudden considering the couple was photographed holding hands a little over a week ago, on August 30th. The photo is below –

ABC has released the photos of the 16 contestants that will appear on this season’s Dancing With The Stars along their partners. The show, which premiers Monday, September 21 at 8/7c on ABC, will also have a few twists, including a double elimination on Sept. 23. We will definitely be watching.

New Cast Of Dancing With The Stars Is Revealed!
ABC has announced the 16 newest stars set to appear on Dancing With The Stars’ ninth season which premieres Sept 21. Sixteen celebrities — including Donny Osmond, Melissa Joan Hart and Aaron Carter — have signed on.
DWTS executive producer Conrad Green tells PEOPLE about the cast increase, “It was about trying to make it as big as possible and try to get that sense of fun and excitement and real character come through on the show.”
The new lineup also includes former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin, reality star Kelly Osbourne and supermodel-turned-billionaire businesswoman Kathy Ireland. Lesser-known celebrities, such as snowboarder Louie Vito, Iron Chef’s Mark Dacascos and model Joanna Krupa join the cast as well. The most surprising contestant by far is former House of Representatives Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Below are the 16 stars:
- Chuck Liddell: The Ultimate Fighting Championship member .
- Louie Vito: A professional snowboarder who has participated in the Winter X Games.
- Natalie Coughlin: The swimmer earned six gold medals at the 2008 Olympics.
- Michael Irvin: A former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver who was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
- Mya: A Grammy-winning R&B singer and former star of Broadway’s Chicago.
- Kelly Osbourne: The London-born daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
- Macy Gray: She won one Grammy and was nominated for four more.
- Debi Mazar: Stars on Entourage and has also appeared in four Madonna videos.
- Ashley Hamilton: The son of George Hamilton and Alana Stewart (and stepson of Rod Stewart).04.
- Kathy Ireland: The former model (who appeared in Sports Illustrated for 13 consecutive years) .
- Joanna Krupa: Maxim named her the sexiest swimsuit model in the world.
- Aaron Carter: A pop singer (and little brother to the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter) .
- Donny Osmond: The one-time teen idol used to perform with his brothers as a kid in the Osmond Brothers.
- Melissa Joan Hart: A mother of two boys, she is most known for starring in Sabrina the Teenage Witch from 1996 to 2003.

Love Is In The Air For Real Housewife of NYC – Kelly Bensimon
Uma Thurman’s ex boyfriend and New York City hotelier, André Balazs, has found a new love interest. André who dated Uma Thurman on and off for about 4 years was spotted with Real Housewives of NYC’s star, Kelly Bensimon.
Both Kelly and André were seen at the opening of the lounge hot spot wall at W South Beach. The following night, the pair were found cuddling at Andre’s hotel, The Raleigh. Later in the evening, the pair were once again seen holding hands while dancing, laughing and sharing drinks at the VIP lounge.
Sources say, André was worried when he saw Kelly appearing to flirt with former DWTS contestant Gilles Marini. He was however relieved when he found out that she was only conducting an interview for Plum TV.
Melissa Rycroft: Will Rather Be A Bad Bride Than Bridezilla
Recently engaged Melissa Rycroft says wedding plans are coming along well with the help of her fiancé Tye Strickland.
“Tye is planning more than I am,” the former Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars contestant confessed to PEOPLE Monday night at the Verizon Wireless Matt Leinart Foundation Celebrity Bowl at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood. “At this point, I’m probably the worst bride in the history of brides.”
Melissa and Tye dated on and off for about 2 years before he proposed on June 26. With wedding plans underway, Melissa says she would rather be a bad bride than turn into a bridezilla. “I’m the exact opposite [of a bridezilla],” says Rycroft, 26. “I don’t know if we’ll get married ever by the way that I plan it!”
For Melissa, an important part of the ceremony is getting fit to show off the wedding dress. “I’ve heard the stress alone of planning a wedding helps you get into shape for it, so we’ll see if I need to stress myself out a little bit to lose that extra pound!”
Not sure what Melissa is talking about because she definately looks fit to me.
Dancing With the Stars Judge Diagnosed With Cancer
According to a new report, Dancing With The Stars judge Len Goodman was diagnosed with cancer back in March. He however kept it a secret until the season ended.
Len who is also the head judge on the British version of the reality show called Strictly Come Dancing, had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his prostate gland three weeks ago without telling any of his colleagues.
“I have had the surgery now,” Goodman, 65, said. “Everything is gorgeously good. I will be back in September for sure.”
Goodman says he is feeling better already, and is planning on returning to DWTS this fall.
The Bachelor/DWTS’s Melissa Rycroft Is Engaged!
The good news keeps on coming for Melissa Rycroft. The former Bachelor and Dancing With The Stars contestant is now engaged to Dallas insurance agent Tye Strickland.
The two got engaged this weekend. It might seem rather quickly for The Bachelor fans, but the two have actually dated on and off for 2 years. They began dating once again after Jason Mesnick infamously dumped Melissa on national television.
Melissa has since gone on to excel on DWTS, and recently got a job as a correspondent on GMA (Good Morning America).
It seems being dumped by Jason might have been the best thing to ever happen to Melissa. Wondering what Jason is up to nowadays? He and Molly however seem to be making it work. The two were still a couple as of Late May.
Melissa Rycroft Gets New Job With Good Morning America
DWTS alum, Melissa Rycroft has just landed a new job with ABC’s Good Morning America as a special contributor, reports Usmagazine.
Rycroft, a 26-year-old sales representative and former Dallas cowboy’s cheerleader — will appear on the morning show about eight times during the summer, “bringing lighthearted, uplifting and fun stories to GMA,” says a source.
Remember, Rycroft was famously dumped by Jason Mesnick on ABC’s The Bachelor finale this past spring. She danced her way as one of the finalist on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
After the show ended, she told Us she didn’t have any plans.
“I’m not going to pursue anything right now,” she told Us, “but if things come my way I will look into them. Never say never!”
Following her outstanding performance on DWTS, we knew we haven’t seen or heard the last of Melissa.
DWTS Gilles Marini’s Shoulder Surgery A Success
Sexy Gilles Marini made it all the way to the Dancing with the Stars finals but lost to Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. Though he complained about his injured shoulder, he never stopped dancing and this led many people to believe the injury was exaggerated.
“A lot of people thought I was joking. No, no. It was bad. A lot of damage to my shoulder,” says the 33-year-old, who was later diagnosed with tendonitis and recently underwent surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“I had an outpatient procedure and the surgeon discovered there was a lot more damage than what we originally thought,” Marini told PEOPLE. The surgery was successful and according to the physician he should fully recover in three weeks.
Marini was asked about plans for the summer- He plans on taking his family to France for a couple of weeks before returning to the states to accept some acting roles. He already confirmed he will be playing Rachel Griffith’s love interest on Brothers and Sisters next season.
Even though he lost on the show, he certainly feels like a winner. “My son [Georges] made a trophy for me. It has four lines on it and the first letters of each line are D-W-T-S,” Marini says proudly. “The first line says ‘Daddy, you’re the best.’ The second line is ‘With all my love.’ The third line is ‘Ten-Eleven-Ten,’ because Len [Goodman] joked he wished he could give me an eleven. And the last line is ‘so proud, Georges.’ This is what it’s all about.”
Lastly, Marini says “For me it was never about winning or losing. After I made it to week five – I am not a dancer and I went that far on a dancing show – I felt like a winner in my heart.”
DWTS’ Melissa Rycroft Really Wanted To Win.
DWTS contestant, Melissa Rycroft admits to USmagazine.com that she really wanted to win after Shawn Johnson was named season eight winner of Dancing with the Stars at the finale. “I wanted that mirror ball trophy, I really did,” she tells Usmagazine. “But I don’t need it because I know I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I could.
Rycroft who rose to fame after being dumped on national TV by Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor is thankful to have been one of the final three competitors, along with Johnson and Sex in the city star Gilles Marini.
According to Rycroft, her life has changed over the last several months and she is grateful for the opportunities she has been given. “Never in a million years did I imagine I’d be dancing with an Olympian and someone who was in a blockbuster movie,” Rycroft said after she and partner Tony Dovolani were eliminated Tuesday.
Rycroft feels like they all won because they all worked hard. “Backstage, we were all really happy for each other. We started reminiscing about our journeys and how far each of us has come and the last time we were all out here, we all got perfect scores”, Rycroft continues.
So what’s next for Rycroft? Now that she’s in the reality show spotlight, will she try to stay there? “I really don’t know,” she tells Us. “I’m not going to pursue anything right now, but if things come my way I will look into them.” Melissa is open to any opportunities that may come her way and she seems to have a bright future ahead of her.
Most people thought Marini will win the trophy but even though he took Second-place he is “thrilled” for Johnson but disappointed he let his son down. Marini lost by less than one percent. “I told my son I was sorry because he only understands one thing and that is, “Daddy lost,” so it is difficult for him to understand,” Marini tells Us. Not to worry, he plans on getting his son lots of gift to make up for the loss.
Marini hopes to be involved in several meaningful projects in the future. Something tells me we haven’t seen the last of either Marini or Rycroft.
